Remember the 1983 film which took Thyagarajan who was until then known as a villain to meteoric heights? The cult film ‘Malaiyur Mambattiyan’ is one of the best local Robin Hood stories in Tamil. The film was run for 200 days and generated a lot of wannabes.

When Thyagarajan announced to remake his film as ‘Mambatiyaan’ with his son Prashanth playing the title role many were surprised. But Thyagarajan went ahead and has now almost finished the project with a budget of 25 crores.

Mambattiyan story is an ever green one. That’s why the original was remade in all the languages including Hindi. In Hindi it was called ‘Gangvaa’ and Rajinikanth played the title role. Such an intense story is sure to capture the imagination even today.

The new version ‘Mambattiyan’ has an impressive casting. Prashanth plays the title role and Meera Jasmine plays the heroine played by Saritha in the original. The police officer role played by Jaishankar is played Prakash Raj. Jayamalini is played by Mumait Khan, Senthamarai is played by Kotta Seenivasa Rao. Thyagarajan is making all the efforts to release the film in May.

Malaiyur Mambattiyan released a few decades ago starring Thyagarajan and Saritha went on to become a great hit during those days. In fact this film gave Thyagarajan an identity and the film’s name was prefixed to his name.

Now this film is being remade with his son Prashanth doing his dad’s role. Meera Jasmine will be his heroine. Story screenplay and direction will be taken care by Thyagarajan himself. This will be Prashanth’s home production. The main cast will be supported by Mumaith Khan, Kalabhavan Mani, Prakash Raj and Vadivelu. The team will shortly leave for Africa to can song sequences.

Prashanth says there are new scenes in the remake of Mambattiyan

Mambattiyan is a film directed by Thyagarajan. This film which is a remake of the film Malaiyur Mambattiyan is being made in Tamil and Telugu languages. Prashanth who is donning the role of Mambattiyan while speaking to the media said,”
The film Malaiyur Mambattiyan was remade in Telugu film which had Krishnamraju in the lead role, in Kannada which had Ambareesh and in Hindi which had Rajnikanth. Now this film is being remade in Tamil.
I am donning the role which Thyagarajan did in the original version. Meera Jasmine is donning the role which Saritha did and Mallika Sherawat is donning the role which Silk Smitha did.

Vadivelu is donning the role which Goundamani did in the original version. I have done special workouts to don this role. The fighting scenes featuring me, wild bisons and elephants will be very thrilling. The comedy with Vadivelu would me much spoken after Winner. Shaji Kumar is handling the camera.
We are holding a contest to guess that who is the music composer of this film. The person who guesses it correct will be given a prize by the music composer who had composed music for this film on the audio launch function.
The story and scenes will not be the same as in the original version. We have changed the screenplay to suit the present day trend. Modern graphics scenes will feature in this film.”
