Audio launch of Nellu

Dignitaries and fans who had gathered to witness the launch of the audio of the film Nellu were greeted by earthen pots full of boiling rice, lovely thoranams and beautiful kolams.

Though it wasn’t high on celeb quotient, the audio launch was nevertheless a glitzy affair and those present shared a camaraderie that infused life into the event.

The film’s cast and crew — the leads, Satya, Bhagya and Karthik Jai (who are debuting with this film), director M Sivashankar and the man of the moment, composer SS Kumaran of Poo fame — were naturally excited about the music and how the film had finally come out.

Director-actor K Bhagyaraj, actors Nandha, Ashok, Manoj K Bharathi (with his wife Nandana) were among the celebs who turned up for the event.

Small screen Sivasankar to debut on celluloid

M. Sivasankar, who has worked in many television serials on various channels as an assistant director, makes the grade as director with a new film titled ‘Nellu’ (means paddy in English). When asked about the odd title given to his debut directorial venture, Sivasankar said that as the title amply suggested, the story would be about agriculturists and farmers.

“The film would narrate the story of many poor farmers who inhabited the Cauvery Delta region in and around Thanjavur District in the sixties. It would offer invaluable information and detail about their lifestyle. Nel (paddy) and kaalam (period of time) play important roles in the film.

“To put it simply, the film seeks to narrate the story from the seed-sowing period to the harvesting period.

In between the agricultural happenings, a soft romantic story is woven around the film in an enthralling manner. We have planned the script in such a manner sans obscenity of any kind and double-meaning dialogues.

“The film, as and when it releases, would be a rich and fitting tribute to the millions of farmers who toil it out under the hot sun and during rains across the country so that we eat our food (thrice-a-day) without any hassles,” says an emotional Sivasankar.
